On Monday, October 14, the Glen Alpine Board of Aldermen agreed to move forward with the Downtown Gathering Space at 401 Bridge Street. Alderman Luke Boone is against the park including a playground for children. With that restriction, the plan is being adapted to only include parking, restrooms, picnic shelter and open green. Alderman Reid Scott will be the lead for Town of Glen Alpine for the project.
On October 17, Alderman Scott and BRTA’s Beth Heile met with True North Surveying to discuss the new plan. Needing a engineered grading plan, the team met with West Consultants on November 20.
To start the process back in January, BRTA spent $10,000 on the original plan based on public input and visits to local civic groups. There is currently $184,920 to spend on the park and some elements of that original plan will be included. Funding is from
$4920 Community Donations.
$125,000 State Funds
$25,000 Existing Town Park Account
$30,000 Town of Glen Alpine
BRTA has signed a contract with True North Surveying to provide the boundary and topographical survey. This will be supplied to West Consultants to create the grading plan for parking, restrooms, picnic shelter and open green.
