BRTA is about connecting communities — and we have been in contact with NCDOT for two years about making the bridge that connects the two sides of Rhodhiss (Burke and Caldwell) safe for walkers and bikers. We are thrilled to announce that NCDOT has determined the bridge is wide enough to repaint the stripes to have a wider section for pedestrians. In addition, warning signs will be added.
Making this bridge safe has move from a nicety to a necessity as developers are looking at parcels on the east and west side of the road on the north side. And, BRTA has a grant for the old mill on the south side to put together a pro forma financial package to start looking for developers to create 80 apartments. Big things are happening in Rhodhiss and it will be great to highlight it as a walkable community.
